J’Anna grew up in a household where jazz music was played all the time. Her parents are both accomplished jazz musicians, songwriters and enthusiasts. From an early age, she was exposed a multitude of fine concerts among them Stephan Grapelli, Joe Venuti, Stan Kenton, Jackie and Roy, Keeley Smith, Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass.

Often times during a recording session for TV or film soundtracks, J’Anna is asked to play a “Stephan Grapelli” style solo. You can hear her play this type of a solo in some of the theme song music for the HBO show Arliss. Working with Richard Perry, the producer on Rod Stewart’s classic American standards recording, she was asked to play in this type of Paris jazz hot club style that was typical of the era in which the songs were written.
